Listening to the rhythmic pounding of water against corrugated metal overhead,
she lay barely clothed, swaddled in hot, sticky, tropical air.
As a breeze ruffled the fluorescent pink mosquito net cocoon,
she wondered- what if?
They could hide from monsoon rains together, bodies interwoven, until they melted into the sheets.
A warm thick breeze carries their daughter's laughter as she splashes through the warm downpour.
Embraced by a tropical night, the tinkling of rain makes me wonder, what if I never left?
